Thailand Visa for Indians: Everything You Need to Know

Planning a trip to Thailand? Whether you’re heading there for its vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, or exciting nightlife, the first thing you’ll need is a valid visa. Let’s break down everything Indians need to know about getting a Thailand visa.

Types of Thailand Visa for Indians

There are two main types of visas Indians can apply for when planning a trip to Thailand:

  • Tourist Visa: Ideal for those visiting for a holiday or to explore the country. This visa is usually valid for up to 60 days.
  • Visa on Arrival (VoA): A shorter option, valid for up to 15 days, and is available at select airports and land border points in Thailand.

Visa on Arrival: The Quick and Easy Option

For many travelers, the Visa on Arrival (VoA) is the go-to choice. It’s convenient, and you can apply for it once you land in Thailand. Here’s what you need to know:

  • VoA is valid for 15 days and cannot be extended.
  • You can get this visa at any of the 32 designated entry points in Thailand, including Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports.
  • Documents Required:
    • A valid Indian passport with at least 30 days’ validity from the date of arrival.
    • Return flight tickets to show you’ll be leaving within 15 days.
    • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking).
    • 10,000 Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per family to show you have enough funds for the trip.
    • Two passport-sized photos.

How to Apply for a Thailand Visa on Arrival

Applying for a VoA is straightforward. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you out:

  1. Fill out the application form: Available at the visa counters at your arrival point.
  2. Submit the documents: Hand over your passport, return ticket, hotel booking, and the visa fee of 2,000 Baht (approx. INR 4,500).
  3. Get your visa: After verification, you’ll receive your visa and can officially enter Thailand!

Tip: If you want to avoid long queues, you can apply for a Thailand eVisa on Arrival before traveling. This will let you fast-track the process once you land.

Tourist Visa: For a Longer Stay

Planning to stay in Thailand for more than 15 days? You’ll need to apply for a Tourist Visa before your trip. Here’s how it works:

  1. A Tourist Visa allows you to stay for up to 60 days. You can also extend it by an additional 30 days by applying at the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.
  2. Submit your application at the Thai Embassy or Consulate in India.
  3. Documents Required:
    • Your passport (valid for at least six months).
    • Visa application form.
    • Two passport-sized photographs.
    • Confirmed flight tickets.
    • Proof of funds (20,000 Baht per person or 40,000 Baht per family).
    • Hotel booking or proof of accommodation.

Tip: The processing time for a Tourist Visa is usually 3-4 working days, so plan ahead!

Thailand Visa Fees for Indians

  • 2,000 Baht (approximately INR 4,500) at the airport
  •  INR 2,500 for a single-entry visa. For multiple entries, the fee is INR 12,000.

Important Things to Keep in Mind

  1.  While it’s not mandatory, it’s a good idea to have travel insurance for medical emergencies.
  2.  Always check the latest travel advisories for Thailand before you fly. As of now, there are no major COVID-19 restrictions, but it’s best to stay informed.
  3. You must carry enough money to cover your stay. For VoA, you’ll need to show proof of funds of 10,000 Baht for individuals or 20,000 Baht for families.

Extending Your Stay in Thailand

If you’re having a great time and want to stay longer, you can extend your Tourist Visa by 30 days. Visit the Immigration Bureau in Thailand, submit the required documents, and pay the 1,900 Baht extension fee. Unfortunately, the Visa on Arrival cannot be extended, so if you’re planning on staying longer, it’s best to apply for a Tourist Visa beforehand.
